What is Hermanas Unidas all about?
We are glad you asked! Hermanas Unidas is an organization that was created to give Chicana/Latinas on campus an opportunity to find a home away from home. Hermanas Unidas here at Cal State Los Angeles is only one of several chapters established throughout California. Hermanas Unidas (HaU) de Cal State LA seeks to provide a place where students can come together and be themselves. We have an open door policy, we do not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, or religion. We are an hermandad attempting to provide support for underrepresented students as they work to achieve and excel academically as well reaching their own potential. We want to raise awareness and educate the campus and the community at large about Latina/o issues. We will promote ethical leadership, academic achievement, and cultivate civic responsibility. Hermanas Unidas provides graduate and professional resources and leadership opportunities for students and alumni. We are also part of a large familial networking system. We strive to organize and participate in various community service, collegiate networking, and academic/professional development events and workshops. Hermanas Unidas has grown to be not only an organization that fosters academic excellence or a foundation through which we empower our communities, but a true familia. Regardless of where ever Hermanas may roam, one thing continues to remain true: ¡Once an Hermana, Always an Hermana! |
